This chapter:
- identifies areas where mineral extraction is an expected activity and provides specific zones for this activity in locations with known concentrations of mineral resources. This includes the Buller Coalfield Zone and Mineral Extraction Zone.
- provides for the potential of mineral extraction more widely across the region in the Rural Zones and Open Space Zones
- seeks to balance the economic benefits of mineral extraction with other resource management considerations.
